Hillsboro
Hillsboro is a small village in Vernon County. The first settlers, Valentia Hill and his brothers, arrived in 1850. The earliest of settlers to the Hillsboro area were mostly of German descent. Immigrating Czechs began arriving in Hillsboro from the Bohemian region of what is now the Czech Republic in the mid-1800’s, drawn in part to this area’s similarity to the land they left behind. With them, they brought their traditions, foods, and culture. Each summer, Hillsboro celebrates its Czech heritage with its Cesky Denfestival, where we celebrate being the Czech capital of Wisconsin.
From the historic downtown to the surrounding countryside, you will find a community that truly embraces the "small town Wisconsin" lifestyle. The picturesque scenery of Hillsboro only enhances the numerous activities in the area. From historic farmsteads to recreational trails, community celebrations to outdoor fun, Hillsboro offers a truly unique experience for everyone. Activities in the area include recreation on the Kickapoo and Baraboo Rivers, Wildcat Mountain State Park, Vernon County Round Barns, world-class trout fishing, motorcycling routes, and Amish settlements.
Hillsboro is 56 miles from La Crosse and 84 miles from Madison.
