Head to Westby the weekend of May 20 and celebrate Syttende Mai. There are lots of activities going on in town including a few taking place at the New Directions Real Estate building and parking lot.
The History Alive Project will have a few presentations during the day that will be held in the basement of our office building. At 11:30am Arno Morton will be speaking on a variety of topics including the difference between Nisse and Trolls. During his presentation at 2pm, he will also bring to life the stories of Norwegian WWII bravery to get the gold and the king out of Norway so that the invading Germans would not capture.

At 12:30pm the History Alive Project presents David Glomstad, American Civil War Researcher. He will appear in a Civil War uniform and explain his authentic Civil War firearm. Nearly 1,000 Norwegian immigrants were among those who answered the call to help fight and became the 15th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry Regiment. Mr. Glomstad will take you from their beginnings in Madison through their battles along the Mississippi, into Kentucky and Tennessee, then finally to Georgia and the end of their three year enlistment in the Union Army.
There will be samples of Nisse treats, foil wrapped chocolate “coins” and hard tack candy to taste.
Between 11am-2pm take a ride on the 40/8 Lokey Train! The ride begins and ends in the New Directions Real Estate parking lot.
